With Inauguration Day approaching, many activist groups are thinking about how to use this day to get their message out and be heard. One of those groups, DCMJ, has plans to give away 4,200 pre-rolls of legally grown cannabis at the ceremony in an effort to encourage legalization of cannabis at the federal level, according to their website.
The website goes on to say “We legalized cannabis in Washington, DC and we are not going to let anyone take that away from us! This is an outreach opportunity to show President Trump’s supporters we are the marijuana majority!”
For anyone who wants to join them on inauguration day, invitations are open to participating and they mention they will be meeting at the west side of Dupont Circle at 8 a.m. to start the party. We encourage any of our readers in D.C. during inauguration to join them, you can RSVP on Facebook here and you can sign up to volunteer here. They also plan to encourage people to light the joints four minutes and 20 seconds into the president-elect’s speech in a moment of solidarity.
We at Red Eye Chronicle encourage everyone in our community to take the same initiative during events and figure out how we can help spread the message of legalization. That being said, make sure to follow all local laws and present the cause as respectable as possible. It is legal to cultivate and gift cannabis in Washington D.C., as well as legal to possess it for adults. Although, it is not legal to smoke it in public and people would technically be violating that ordinance if they choose to light up. The founder of the group does say that they will be educating people on the risks of making the choice to light the joints during the speech.
