LA. residents and those visiting the City of Angels on New Year’s Day found the famous Hollywood sign reading “HOLLYWeeD”. While this is not the first time the sign has been altered by vandals, this one comes at the perfect time, celebrating the passing of California’s Prop 64 legalizing cannabis.

This merry prankster used 4 tarps, 2 white and 2 black with a peace sign and heart, to convert the O’s into e’s transform the sign into the end result. Funny enough, this is not the first time this has happened, in 1976 a student from Cal State altered the sign on New Year’s Day as well. This 1976 edit also lined up with a historical step in the fight to normalize cannabis usage, as California had just classified possession of up to one ounce of marijuana as a misdemeanor, rather than a felony.

Currently, the police have said that security footage showed a lone individual, dressed in black, climbing the ladders of the sign and hanging the tarps. Police have also said that the sign was not damaged and so it’s being treated as a case of trespassing which has no suspects. While we may never know how this brave soul was, we must thank him for his service, risking life and limb to spread the word and do the Lord’s work. This dab‘s for you buddy.
